John Wood Community College Endowed Scholarship
Matt McElfresh Scholarship was established in 2009 by Gary and Shelia McElfresh, with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, in memory of their son Matthew McElfresh. This scholarship is awarded to a part-time or full-time student enrolled in the Law Enforcement Program at JWCC. Criteria include motivation to pursue a career in law enforcement, resident of Adams County, GPA of 2.00-3.25 on a 4.00 scale, and potential, character, leadership, career goals and willingness to succeed. A narrative statement (250-500 words) addressing “Law Enforcement as a Calling” must accompany the application.

Dustin Friday
Dustin is a 2010 graduate of West Prairie High School. He is pursuing an associate degree at John Wood and hopes to transfer to Western Illinois University to major in law enforcement and political science. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Dustin would like to apply to the Illinois State Police Academy. Dustin feels he is meant to be a police officer. He says he is here to help others; it’s what he loves and what he lives for.
